IskandarWorld: Part 1: Fire Fighting Awareness Prog.

Date:Saturday, 22 December 2007. Venue: Bomba Brunei Shell

The programme was organised in partnership between Oil & Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) & Brunei Shell Fire Services. The aims of the prog. are to create awareness among youth on the dangers of fire and on how to handle emergency situations and to provide participants with a hands-on experience on firefighting activities with the main emphasis on safety aspects.

The participants will have a first-hand look on the activities carry out by Bomba Shell fire fighters not only in dealing with domestic fire but also in other emergency situations.

The prog. is open to those age 13 - 18 years old. Alhamduillah, nearly 40 participants attended the programmes with majority are ex ogdc Discovery Camps participants.

The participants are divided into 3 groups namely
*Titan - Group leader : Mui (Abdul Rahim)
*Countour - Group leader : Haziq (Master Yoda..heheeheh)
* Turbex - Group leader : Najib (Powerpuff)

8.00am - Arrival of participants
8.30am - Registration/distribution of name tags
- Briefing & Safety presentation
- Marching exercise
- Physical fitness Exercise (Level 1 & 2)
- Domestic Fire Fighting Techniques
- Obstacles Course - Casulty Relay Race
12 - 1.30pm - Lunch/Zohor prayer
- Fire Fighter's Challenge
- Refreshment
- Prizes & Certificates presentation
- End of programme

In my initial meeting with Pg. Omar & Mohd Hemmie - I request for a Marching exercise, honestly, they were quiet shock..Bomba Brunei Shell does not emphasize on marching unlike their goverment counterpart Gov't Bomba but they do their best to facilitate it....

The Marching exercise does help build participant character and attitude as well as creating a leader who can communicate and subordinate that follow instructions. This is really a nice 'team building' activity.
