I bought these handcrafted Columbine Venetian masks couple of days ago, really love the intricate art works and those dazzling 'stones' make the masks even more unique. I am trying to get hold of phantom of the Opera Mask...hmmmmm! not sure how, unless I'm flying of to Venice....

A little bit of background info from the internet:

Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. Worn during the Carnevale (the Carnival of Venice, elsewhere known as Mardi Gras), however In the past, the masks have been used on many other occasions as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status. It would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was thus useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters.

Types of Masks
1. The Bauta
2. Volto(Lava)
3. Moretta
4. Columbine

I believe the type of masks that I got is "Columbine".

Columbine
The Columbine also known as (Columbina and Columbino) is a half mask often highly decorated with gold, silver, crystals and feathers. It was held up to the face by a baton or tied with ribbon as with most other venetian masks. The columbine was popularised by an early actress in the Commedia dell'arte of the same name. It is said it was designed for her because she was beautiful and did not wish to have her face covered completely.

This was note was attached with the mask...
